Today's Bangalore newspapers were splashed with the news of a software professional first killing his wife for allegedly having an extra marital affair and then committing suicide. They were married for just one year.
Few years ago - another software professional was killed while returning home after an evening out with his wife. It appeared that it was a case of mugging-turned-murder. After some months of investigation, it was found out that the newly wed wife and her boyfriend had plotted to kill the husband. When I last heard - verdict was pending for the accused.
Both cases involved educated, upper middle class, supposedly responsible people. I don't understand one thing - why did these people choose to take lives of their spouses instead of just divorcing them? Is murder less condemnable a crime than being divorced? Or does love turn you so blind that the life of the person you love becomes less important than your love for him or her?

I think this could be the result of "awesome" movies like RACE!
My take - I guess its the anger of deception.. the anger that far surpasses any other emotion (even love) that made him kill her. Its not normal for humans to kill each other. They are overpowered by abnormal levels of emotions, anger in todays case and love for another man in the other case... all human emotions but in abnormal ratios that made them do this. They were thinking from the heart !!
@Solitaire: Not sure of the movie influence. But there have been many movies since a long time that have this theme.
@Nitika: I agree. The first case did seem like a spur of the moment thing but the second one was a well-planned one. I personally feel it's very natural to fall out love wsith the person you marry. But taking someone's life for that is just not right.
The question towards d end of the post put me into deep thinking. Is love so blind? Yes i must say! and the question "life becomes less important than Love?", made me think that "yes, it happens." But could nt find the reasons why is so happens. May b due to, as nitika says, anger. The level of anger is on a rise at all levels, b it children or adults. May b we r becoming less tolerant day by day...
I don't think either case was love for the dead people.
In the former, it was anger at being taken for a ride, at being punished (I guess) for no fault of his. Maybe even some jealously for having failed to get himself into an extra-marital while his wife succeeded :-)) :-)). Or maybe it was "pratistha" whatever the heck that means ... definitely not love.
The latter, is interesting cos I have no idea why the husband had to be murdered ...??? Why did the girl marry this guy in the first place? Whatever it was it definitely wasn't love.
And abnormal, most certainly so!!!
